Websites where you can practise your listening skills further

  • Saberingles Listening comprehension exercises in American English in three levels (your level is probably difficult). You have to listen while you read the script of the text and fill in the gaps with one word or answer multiple choice questions
  • Rong-chang 100 short stories for intermediate students to listen to and answer questions. Click on the Wh-questions or cloze at the bottom, so that you can listen and practise your comprehension. To finish the exercise, you can listen and read the script at the same time
  • Englishlistening Choose the domain (ALL), the level (Advanced Listeners) and Topics (ALL). Then you just have to click on one of the listenings which appear on the list and they will give you details about it (content, speaker, number of minutes, accent, speed...). Just listenings, no exercises
  • Esl-lab Choose your level (difficult), click on a story, then on "Listening Exercises" and choose your player so that you can listen to the text and answer multiple choice comprehension questions. To finish the exercise, you can listen and read the script at the same time
  • Elllo Over 1,000 listening activities. Most activities include images, an interactive quiz, transcript of the audio and downloadable MP3. Just browse and look for something your level
  • Podcastsinenglish 75 listenings for Intermediate level and 75 for Upper Intermediate to listen to online or to download. Disadvantage: if you want to have access to the transcripts and the exercises you have to register and pay a small fee.
  • Anglesonline The "Cinema" section shows trailers of recent movies and the student has to answer comprehension questions while watching. Interesting and good fun.
  • A4esl Podcasts you can listen to online or download. Wide variety of topics, starting at intermediate level.
  • BBC podcasts A variety of podcasts on different topics for extensive listening (no exercises).
  • China 232 Podcasts to listen to online or to download, with scripts and explanations of the key vocabulary and how to use it.
